About Walter Vollebregt
My name is Walter Vollebregt and I am both an entrepreneur and a banker. From a young age I have had an interest in what goes on in the world and how people are different across the globe. Since that time I have wanted to work internationally and meet people from all nationalities and cultural backgrounds. After getting my degree in Economics, I ran my own consultancy for three years, before joining commodity bank MeesPierson in 1993. In the meantime, I have 30 years experience in commodity banking and investing with management positions in The Netherlands, UK and the US.
For 15 years I worked for MeesPierson/Fortis in commodity banking and after that as an investor and portfolio manager for APG Asset Management, the largest Dutch pension fund. My last position was Global Head of Metals & Minerals for Rabobank which I combined with the role of Head of Commodity Finance in London.
I have managed large multi billion $ credit portfolio’s and developed client relationships with global traders in Europe, the US, UK, South East Asia and China.
After a short period with a Supply Chain Finance fintech in 2019 as their Chief Risk Officer, I started Vollebregt Advisory in January of 2020. I am a strategy consultant and trusted advisor to a number of commodity trading companies. Besides this, I am a debt advisor to my clients; (re)structuring debt instruments as well as placing debt with lenders and managing documentation processes.
I enjoy working with trading companies, banks and other organisations in the commodity industry. I want contribute to my clients improving their businesses and making them future proof. Commodity traders fulfill a crucial function in the supply chain of raw materials from origin to destination. The challenge is to guide these traders and help them to articulate a sustainable strategy that lays the foundation for securing continuity of their business. From a financial perspective but also in a way that positively impacts the environment we live in. I provide expert advice in finance, governance, risk management, ESG and compliance matters.
As a member of the Supervisory Board for the Fund of the Erasmus Commodity and Trade Center (ECTC) I have the privilege to contribute to education and research in our industry. I hold a Master’s degree in Economics from Erasmus University.

As a testament to its success, in 2023 the Erasmus Commodity & Trade Center (ECTC) was founded under the leadership of the Academic Director Dr. Wouter Jacobs. The center is supported by an initial 3-year endowment of 12 industry partners.
I continue to be a fervent supporter of educating students and executives in the international commodity trading space. Currently, I serve as a member of the Supervisory Board of the ECTC fund.
